Thanks to everyone who has cancelled Spotify.
If you haven’t yet, here’s why and a chance to do so:
Spotify is running ads recruiting agents for ICE. (As are Pandora and Max).

There are Alternatives. Here’s One:
deezer.com is a streaming service with two significant differences from Spotify.
Deezer does not run ICE recruitment ads.
Deezer works actively to keep AI-generated music off their platform so that musicians’ work is honored and compensated. In October 2024, Deezer became the first major streaming platform to sign the “Statement on AI Training,” opposing the unlicensed use of copyrighted works to train generative AI systems.[57]

To Sign on with Deezer
Go to the website and start. It doesn’t take much time.
There is a free first month offer and they alert you a week before the trial is up.
You can create your playlists easily by choosing artists you like.
You can transfer 500 songs free from your Spotify platform. (You can pay a bit to transfer more, but you can use it as an opportunity to clean up what I really wanted to transfer).
Deezer is easy to use and the cost is comparable.

Big Tech
Purpose: Research, confront and respond to the negative effects of Big Tech on our democracy.
We’re discussing who the major players are on the tech front, what exactly they're doing that's destructive, who else might be working in opposition to them within Indivisible and elsewhere, and what things we might do to ensure that whatever we do or discuss remains as private as possible. We decided to do some background reading on the topic, research who else might be working on this, and look into alternatives to our normal methods of communication.
